Comments from the judge: “The figure dominating the canvas is beautifully rendered with the artist using tone to create complexity of depth in the subject and the subject’s clothing. The gaze of the subject coming off center and in 1/4 profile adds tension to the composition that focuses the viewer on that gaze, making an intimate encounter with the painting.”
